MEET THE TEACHER NIGHT

 WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

August  2009

Dear Parents,

Welcome to one of the most incredible years your child will have in his/her school career!  First grade is an exciting time as children embark upon new adventures in the world of learning.  This is a year of important transitions, as well as one in which acquisition of new skills is accelerated.

So much happens in First Grade!  Because of this, parents as well as children may have some apprehensions about what will happen.  It is extremely important to keep in mind that we all build on small successes.  Each child will progress at his/her own rate, acquiring skills as he/she is developmentally ready.  Maintaining each child's self-esteem and building a secure foundation for future growth will always remain a priority in my classroom.

These web pages have been made as a way of communicating weekly events, homework, spelling words, high frequency words, thematic units, and other miscellaneous matters concerning first grade.  It will be updated weekly.  Please save this as a favorite on your computer and refer to this website weekly, preferably on Friday.  My newsletters are done on Friday so that you may take "A PEEK AT OUR WEEK."  Also, the next week's spelling words and high frequency words will be listed as well.

I look forward to meeting you and your child at "Meet the Teacher" night.  On that evening you will receive our classroom handbook, free/reduced lunch application forms, health update form, and other miscellaneous papers in a school information folder.  Also, you may sign up to be a room parent and/or mystery reader (see newsletter link).  Please bring a snack for our snack cupboard as well.

School should be a safe, happy, and fun place to learn.  I will do my best to make this an enjoyable and successful year for your child.  If you should ever have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to call me at school, write a note, or send an email.  Enjoy the last days of summer.

Sincerely,

Ms. Debbie Cook

I WILL BE SUPPLYING EACH STUDENT WITH A BOX FOR DESK SUPPLIES AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND BOXES THAT FIT OUR DESKS.
